Upon your arrival at NJP / IXB / Siliguri, meet and greet with our company representative. Begin your scenic drive to Yuksom (150 km / approx. 6–7 hours), the first capital of Sikkim and the starting point of the Goechala trek. En route, stop for lunch at Jorethang (after 3 hours of drive), then proceed via Tashiding. Visit the beautiful Phamrong Waterfall on the way. On arrival at Yuksom, check in to your hotel or homestay, freshen up, and spend your leisure time exploring Karthok Lake and the nearby local market on foot. Pack your rucksack for the next day’s trek.
Overnight stay: Hotel / Homestay in Yuksom.
After breakfast, collect your packed lunch, fill water bottles, and complete the trekking permit formalities. Begin your trek through dense forests and moderate uphill terrain. You'll cross a landslide-prone zone and three suspension bridges over Pha Khola, Tshushay Khola, and Mentogang Khola. The trail may be slippery in parts.
Sachen (7,200 ft) is a small clearing with a basic log hut and limited space for tents. The soothing sound of the Prekchu River nearby makes it a serene first camp.
Overnight stay: Tent accommodation at Sachen.
Today’s trek is a steep ascent to Tshoka, a former Tibetan settlement. After crossing a suspension bridge over the Prekchu, the trail becomes steeper, especially from Bakhim onwards. Take a break at Bakhim and refill water.
Tshoka offers mesmerizing views of snow-capped peaks like Mount Pandim and Tinchenkhang. There's also a small monastery and a lake to explore.
Overnight stay: Tent accommodation at Tshoka.
Begin with a gradual but consistent uphill trek through enchanting Rhododendron forests to reach Phedang (4.5 km). After a rest and light meal at Phedang, continue the steep trail via Deorali, eventually reaching the alpine meadows of Dzongri.
Upon arrival, change clothes and start acclimatizing, as Dzongri’s high altitude may cause mild altitude sickness. Stay hydrated and take short walks to adjust.
Overnight stay: Tent or Trekkers’ Hut at Dzongri.
After breakfast, set off for Thansing, one of the most picturesque campsites. The trail begins through alpine meadows and descends gradually to Kokchurung, beside the Prekchu River. After a short rest and lunch at Kokchurung, cross a wooden bridge and ascend for another hour to Thansing.
The campsite lies in a vast meadow surrounded by towering peaks, including Mt. Pandim and Mt. Tinchenkhang.
Overnight stay: Tent or Trekkers’ Hut at Thansing.
Wake up to golden sunrise views over the Himalayas. Capture stunning photos of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Pandim, and Tinchenkhang.
Today’s short and easy trek to Lamuney is along flat meadows flanking the Prekchu River. On your way, pass by Deotagarh and Tinchenkhang Base Camp. After reaching Lamuney, have a hot lunch. Optionally, hike 2 km further to visit the crystal-clear Samiti Lake.
Overnight stay: Tent at Lamuney.
Start early at around 2:00 AM for the most awaited day of the trek. Begin your ascent to Goechala View Point 1 (5 km) to witness the magical sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks like Talung, Pandim, and Kabru.
Due to forest department restrictions, trekkers are only allowed up to View Point 1 (unless special permission is granted). For those allowed beyond, proceed via Zemathang Valley to Goechala View Point 2 & 3. These routes involve a steep and rocky ascent.
After experiencing this breathtaking moment, descend back to Lamuney for rest and lunch, then return to Thansing. Celebrate the successful summit with a traditional Bada Khana (feast).
Overnight stay: Tent or Trekkers’ Hut at Thansing.
After breakfast, begin your return journey. Descend to Kokchurung, and from there, take a direct forest trail to Phedang (approx. 4 hours), skipping Dzongri. Rest at Phedang, then continue down to Tshoka.
Overnight stay: Tent or Trekkers’ Hut at Tshoka.
Today marks the final day of your trek. Descend gradually through the familiar forest trail, retracing your path via Bakhim and Sachen, finally reaching Yuksom. After check-in, unwind and explore Yuksom’s peaceful surroundings. Enjoy a campfire evening with dinner.
Overnight stay: Hotel in Yuksom.
After breakfast, drive back to NJP / Bagdogra / Siliguri (150 km / 6–7 hrs), marking the end of your unforgettable Goechala adventure.
