“Meet & Greet” with our company representative on arrival at NJP / IXB / Siliguri and proceed to Yuksom (150 km, 6–7 hrs, 5,840 ft), the first capital of Sikkim and the starting point of the Kasturi Orar Round trek. After 3 hours of driving, you will reach Jorethang, where you can stop for lunch. The next leg of the journey takes around 3 hours more via Tashiding, with a visit to Phamrong Waterfalls en route. Upon arrival in Yuksom, check in and freshen up. You can then spend your leisure time walking around Karthok Lake and the local market area. Before dinner, pack your rucksack for the trek. Overnight stay at Yuksom in a hotel or homestay.
After breakfast, collect your packed lunch, fill your water bottle, and complete the permit formalities for the Kasturi Orar Round trek. Get ready for a 5–6 hour trek to Sachen. The first day’s trail winds through a dense forested valley with some steep sections. You will cross a landslide zone and three bridges over Pha Khola, Tshushay Khola, and Mentogang Khola before reaching the Sachen campsite. The trail can be slippery in some areas. Sachen, at 7,200 feet, is a small clearing with a log hut and limited cooking space. For larger groups, camping is possible at a clearing just above the trail. The soothing sound of the Prek River runs just below the campsite. Overnight stay in a tent.
Today's trek is entirely uphill to the abandoned Tibetan settlement of Tsokha. During the 4–5 hour trek, you will cross a suspension bridge over the Prekchu River. After the 4th bridge, a 6 km steep climb begins via Bakhim — the toughest stretch of the day. Take a break and refill your water bottle at Bakhim. From there, continue another 2 km uphill to reach Tsokha. The location is stunning, offering majestic views of snow-clad Himalayan peaks such as Mt. Pandim and Mt. Tinchenkhang. There is a small lake and a monastery nearby. Overnight stay in a tent.
Start your day with breakfast and begin the steep 4.5 km climb to Phedang through rhododendron forests. The log path transitions to a stony trail that leads quickly to Phedang in about 30 minutes. Take a short lunch break here. After resting, continue the steep ascent through rhododendron forests to reach the alpine meadows of Dzongri via Deorali. The trek from Phedang to Dzongri takes about 2 hours. Upon arrival at the campsite, change your clothes and try to acclimatize. At this altitude, symptoms such as headaches, nausea, or oxygen loss are common in the first 2–3 hours. Drink plenty of fluids and spend some time outside your tent or take a walk for 45 minutes to an hour. Overnight stay in a tent or trekker’s hut.
Today’s destination is the mesmerizing Thansing Valley, located 8 km from Dzongri. The first part of the trail descends gradually through meadows to Kokchurung. The trail transitions from rhododendron shrubs to rhododendron forests. Along the way, enjoy glimpses of Mt. Pandim from various points. Kokchurung sits beside the Prekchu River and has a beautiful log hut, although limited camping space. Take a break here for lunch. Then cross a wooden bridge over the Prekchu River and climb for about an hour to reach Thansing. You can spend some peaceful time on the bridge, enjoying the cool breeze from the icy blue river. The final stretch over rocks and moss-covered trails leads to Thansing’s wide meadow, considered the best campsite of the route. Enjoy a fresh hot meal. Overnight stay in a tent or trekker’s hut.
Wake up early to soak in the wide-angle views of Mt. Pandim, Mt. Tinchenkhang, and the Kanchenjungha wall, perfectly framed against the Thansing log hut. Today is the easiest day of the Goechala trek, with a gentle trail to Lamuney that runs alongside the Prekchu River. Walk through expansive meadows and admire the surrounding peaks — Mt. Kanchenjungha, Pandim, Jopuno, and Tinchenkhang. Along the route, pass by Deotagarh and the Mt. Tinchenkhang Base Camp. Upon arrival in Lamuney, enjoy a hot lunch. Optionally, you can trek further 2 km to Samiti Lake and spend an hour there. Overnight stay in a tent.
Today is the most challenging and longest day of the trek. Start as early as 2:00 AM from Lamuney to witness the sunrise from Goechala Viewpoint 1. You can leave some of your gear at Lamuney and carry a lighter rucksack. The 5 km trail to the first viewpoint takes approximately 3 hours. The path from Samiti Lake is continuously steep and narrow, requiring careful footing. Upon reaching the viewpoint, you’ll be rewarded with a majestic sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha, Mt. Talung, Pandim, Tinchenkhang, the Kabru group, and Goecha Peak. There are three official viewpoints on the Goechala route; however, trekkers are generally only permitted to go up to Viewpoint 1 unless they have special technical permits. If permitted, continue along Zemathang Valley to Viewpoint 3 (Goechala Pass), which includes a steep final ascent and may require ropes. Goecha Pokhri lies to the left of the trail. After taking in the summit views, descend to Lamuney for rest and lunch, then continue back to Thansing. Overnight stay in a tent.
After breakfast, begin the uphill trek to Lampokhari through remote alpine terrain. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and pass by tiny high-altitude lakes along the way. Overnight stay in a tent at Lampokhari.
Trek from Lampokhari to Kasturi, a serene section of the trail that offers panoramic views and unspoiled nature. Overnight stay in a tent at Kasturi.
After breakfast, begin your descent through dense, moss-laden forests filled with orchids, vines, and dappled light to reach the traditional Gurung village of Labdang. This picturesque village offers a glimpse into Sikkimese culture and hospitality. Overnight stay in a homestay.
After breakfast, drive back to NJP / IXB / Siliguri for your onward journey, marking the end of your incredible Kasturi Orar Round + Goechala Trek adventure.
